What is the Daycare Decluttering challenge?
Welcome to the Daycare Spaces and Ideas Month-long 2017 Decluttering Challenge.
The goal of our challenge is to let things go.
Each day in February, I will provide you with a specific challenge that consists of a daily 15-minute decluttering challenge. These decluttering sessions focus on a specific area of your childcare space.
How do I participate?
Although challenge can be done independently at any time (by using the Calendar below), I recommend you participate in our FB community challenge. As a group participant you will find more support! You can share your before and after photos, celebrate your successes, support others, and you will have an option to join our weekly participation giveaways. The group challenge will begin on 2/1/17-Join our group here.
The tough questions...
How long will it take?
As you focus on the daily challenge, ask yourself these questions: Is the item broken? , Do you need it?, Use it? or Love it?. If you, or your Daycare kiddos love the item- let it stay... if not, consider letting it go.
If you do use the item-ask yourself: How often? Do you use it enough to keep it? If you "need" the item-ask your self if you have anything else that will substitute, can you borrow it from someone else? How much of it do you need? Can you let some of it go? If it's broken, can it be repaired easily? Do you have the time/funds to repair it?
Each daily challenge is designed for you to spend 15-minutes declutting. Choose the time that works best for you (before/after work, Naptime etc.) During this time you will make decisions on whether to keep or let go of your items. This can be mentally draining, so don't overdo. Set a daily timer, turn on some of your favorite music, and pace yourself.
Only focus on the targeted area of the daily challenge (it's easy to get carried away).
Time on the weekends to focus on dropping off your donation box, selling your items, and catching up on any of the challenges you missed.
we are decluttering.... not organizing
The goal of these challenges is to get rid of the items that aren't adding value to your space. The items that you no longer use, love, need, or want.
I know "Organizing" our spaces to resemble staged magazine spreads makes us feel good ... at least for a little while. Eventually though, we need to maintain it.. re-organize, re-label, or buy larger containers to store more stuff in.. and maybe find a new place to store it because it just doesn't fit where it used to.
I want you to know that you can find the same satisfaction with decluttering. Once you get rid of an item, you will automatically have more available free space... both physically and visually. Less things= Less time spent cleaning them up. Less Clean up time=more time to spend on other things you enjoy.
As you go through these challenges, think about the items in your space that actually get "touched" during the day, during the Month, or even during the Year.
Kids are often content with less. We've all seen a child more content with the box, on Christmas Day, than the actual toy inside.
